Uranus-Pluto and the Girl Group Explosion: The Lecture
As you may remember, way back in the mists of time (well, this March Solstice weekend) I did my first ever Astrology lecture on the Uranus-Pluto Conjunction years and the rise of Girl Groups in American Popular Music.
Thanks to the tireless work of the wonderful Ian Waisler, the lecture is now available for listening and download (donations appreciated to the Queer Astrology Project appreciated) here.
As is the weirdness with public speaking, I do have to address that I did make a major gaffe around the term Shyster/Sheister. After the lecture it was brought to my attention that it is considered an Anti-Semitic Slur, and my use of it in context to Florence Greenberg (owner of Scepter Records) who was Jewish makes me quite aware in hindsight that I’ve inherited or may unconsciously participate in quite a few cultural biases myself.
I hope that this is a learning moment for me, being my first public speaking opportunity that we’re all not always aware of how prejudice is a part of us whether we’re aware of it or not. I still share this lecture hoping it is informative and shows my passions for history, music and Astrology in one place, but I also take ownership of the blind spot that came along with it.
I hope you sincerely enjoy it! And if you’d like slides to follow along, feel free to email me at email@example.com.
