The Velvelettes “Something’s Happening” (1966, Unreleased. From The Velvelettes: Motown Anthology, 2004)

The Velvelettes “Something’s Happening” (1966, Unreleased. From The Velvelettes: Motown Anthology, 2004) We all know that 2648 West Grand Boulevard in Detroit had an overflow of talent. Here this Sunday we come up with the next date where two legendary leading ladies of Motown share the same Birthday. First off we sing in salutation to…

Love it or leave it, @lilnasx is doing some of the finest ancestral work for Black Queer Folks while slaying the twin dragons of neoliberal gay hell and well, actual hell as created by the white supremacist christian capitalist patriarchy. How “Montero” (Call Me By Your Name) picks up on the magic of “Tutti Fruitti” is my latest for @alt_myriam_gurba666’s “Tasteful Rude.” Find it at tastefulrude.com
We’re in the heart of Aries season, right before a new moon in Aries this week! It seemed a good time to bring back the Zodiac series I started in 2016-2017 as mixes. Now with the podcast we can honor soul singers by their sign and birthdates, talk a little astrology and have a little fun with just over an hour of tunes and banter. This mix goes deep and wide through the 1960’s mostly, but as we look through the accomplishments, we’ll see the diversity in soul through the signs.

So I’ve seen a new bumper crop of tributes to James Brown lately, some of them being like “here’s all the women he supported” as if that man didn’t coerce just about every one of them into a sexual relationship and/or beat the living daylights out of them in return for said support. If y’all can recognize Phil Spector and Ike Turner for the horrible men they were, if you feel the lifelong terror Tina Turner still lives with, time for y’all to do the same for James fucking Brown.
We're sailing out of March like a little baby lamb with some soft 60's soul by women known and unknown! Just over an hour of lullabies for you to round up Women's History Month for this episode of "Listening with Larsupreme.” Find it in the @linktr.ee or by following on @mixcloud!

“Why is she being so DRAMATIC with those spoken word passages” I said to my dad while listening to “Love Is Here & Now You’re Gone” in the car.
This might be my favorite picture of Aretha Franklin. Happy Birthday, Queen.
